CTR – Competitive Trail Rides
These rides are the next step up from pleasure rides. They are strictly open to members only or other recognised Endurance Association members who qualify to ride their requested distance ie. Bronze, Silver or Gold series rider and horse. The horse must have a Log Book. Associations include SERC, EGB etc.
BRONZE
The Bronze Shamrock consists of two qualifying rides of 20-25 miles (32km – 40km) and one final of 30miles (48km). These are to be ridden of a speed between 6-8mph (10-13kph). A rider must be aged 9yrs or above and the horse must be 5yrs or over. An adult must accompany a rider under 12yrs.
SILVER
The Silver Shamrock consists of one qualifying and one final both of 40 miles (64km). The qualifier is to be ridden at a speed between 6-8mph (10-13kph) and the final is to be ridden at a speed of 6-10mph (10-16kph). A rider must be aged 10yrs or above and the horse must be 5yrs or over. Both must be Bronze qualified.
GOLD
The Gold Shamrock consists of one qualifying ride and one final both of 50 miles (80km). The qualifying ride is to be ridden at a speed of between 6-10mph (10-16kph). The final must be ridden at a speed of min 7.5mph (12kph). A rider must be aged 10yrs or over and the horse must be 6yrs or over. Both must be Silver qualified.
Horse and rider may qualify separately, and must progress sequentially through the qualification system and in combination must compete at the level of the least qualified of the pair.
A Gold shamrock and final may not be ridden over the same course or at the same event. A rider may go Gold in their first season but a horse cannot.
PLATINUM
The Platinum was introduced for riders who would like to go to further mileage but may not necessarily want to do FEI rides. The mileage is 60miles (96km) and must be ridden at a min speed of 7.5mph (12kph). A rider must be aged 12yrs or over and the horse must be 7yrs or over.
DIAMOND
The Diamond consists of one ride of 75miles (120km) and must be ridden at a min speed of 7.5mph (12kph). Like the Platinum it was introduced for riders to try that extra goal. A rider must be aged 12yrs or over and the horse must be aged 7yrs or over but you do not necessarily have to do the platinum first but must have gone up through the qualification system.
