The Sun Shines on ILDRA at Gosford

The ILDRA Ulster Branch continued their season with a beautiful dry day, in stark contrast to the previous ride when competitors had to endure heavy downpours of rain.

The well-marked tracks at Gosford Forest Park offered a 11km (7 mile) loop of good, mainly flat, going for the nearly 50 riders who enjoyed the day. 11 CTR riders completed distances of between 32km (20 miles) and 45km (30 miles) with all riders successfully completing their respective distances under the auspices of Vet David Nealham MRCVS.

As the season progresses CTR riders steadily increase both distance and speed as horses and ponies get fitter and continue to build their fitness preparing for the longer rides in the months ahead. The target at this stage is to be selected for one of the teams to travel to England at the end of July to represent Ireland at the Home International and Celtic Challenge competitions. This year the competition will be held in conjunction with the Lindum Spirit ride at Market Rasen Racecourse in Lincolnshire, England.

At Gosford pleasure riders enjoyed a dry ride, for the most part, on good going tracks with lovely sections of forest trails as well as the main tracks which link different areas of the forest park.
