Celtic Challenge International

Thomas Roche Bluebell 1 x 120km (75 miles) 2 day

Tommy RoachThomas has been competing in endurance riding for the past 8 years. Among his achievements were completion of 60 miles in one day and 100 miles over 2 days in Ludlow in 2009 when Ireland won both competitions.

He was a member of the winning Celtic Challenge Teams in 2007 (Wales) and 2009 (England). This is his sixth time travelling as a member of the team.

Kate Russell Diamond Spike 1 x 80km ER (50 miles)

Kate RussellKate has been involved with Endurance Riding for four years starting of as a Pleasure rider and is now a totally hooked CTR rider.

Spike was bought as a happy hacker six years ago and is now Gold Qualified this year doing a tough 50 in the Mournes in wild wet weather.

The pair competed in Scotland in Celtic Challenge Team last year in a 50 mile ER and finished a commendable 6th. Spike is an ex pacer who has a great trot and great heart and a big personality. Spike does not like hanging about and is looking forward to the challenge of the 50 ER at the Red Dragon again.

Jane Bruce Holy Smoke 1 x 80km (50 miles) 2 day

Jane BruceJane and Holy Smoke are ILDRA bronze and silver shamrock qualified. The pair competed for Ireland in the Celtic Challenge team in 2006 in Yetholm , Scotland where the team finished second and also competed on the Home Internationals team last year in Burgie in Scotland. To date this year the pair have completed 7 CTR rides.


Emma McCarthy Sox 1 x 40km (25 miles) Novice

Emma McCarthy and SoxSox is a 6 year old connemara/welsh pony cross. Sox did pleasure rides in 2010 and also won a 10mile non members race ride. This year he started doing CTR's. He is a good little all rounder and will try his hoof to what ever is asked of him.

Emma currently has her bronze and silver shamrock qualifications and is hoping to be gold before the end of the season.

This is Emmas and Sox's first year on the team and are really looking forward to the whole experience.

Hannah Catterall Hollies Dream Flight 1 x 40km (25 miles) Junior

Jane BruceHannah who is 15yrs old started endurance in 2004 and has successfully completed her gold shamrock. This will be her 3rd year riding on the Home International or Celtic Challenge team for Ireland.

Her horse, Holly's Dream Flight is an all rounder.

Hannah attends the City of Armagh High School and is currently in the middle of her GCSE's.
